Literature Text

Alpha – Futago A/Alpha, the first and largest male of the species.
Auslander – German for 'foreigner'.

Beta – Futago B/Beta, the first and largest female of the species.

Cog – Short for Extrasensory Cognition. Humans capable of picking up EEs. With rare exception, cogs are unable to actually communicate via EEs, and cannot actively control their 'power'. Perception is limited to powerful EEs, such as those given off by GMs.

Extrasensory Emission – A wavelength emitted by all living creatures, usually transmitted from the brain. Essentially, 'psychic' energy. EE of most creatures is nominal, but can be recorded in larger or more intelligent life-forms.

Fulad-Zerah – An invulnerable ifrit (demon/jinn) from Persian mythology. Means '[possessing] steel armor'.
Futago – Japanese for 'twins'.

Genesis Gene – Theoretical gene capable of causing GM-scale augmentations. Used to explain GMs created through seemingly 'natural' means. First hypothesized after the appearance of Surudago as the first documented GM.
GM – Genetic Macro. Term originally coined by American military to describe abnormally large life-forms. Aside from increased size and intelligence, GMs share few known characteristics. Some of the known causes of GM-scale growth include radiation, chemical and toxic pollutants, and defects in the so-called 'genesis gene'. GM has also obtained colloquial meaning of 'Giant Monster'.

HG – Hisamatsu Genetics, a company focused on genetic research; best known for the creation of Surudago, Futago Alpha, and Futago Beta.

Imperator Ardens – Latin for 'the flaming emperor'. Name given by Ted Legault.

Lazarus Project – Genetic initiative founded to recreate extinct animals. Most notably led to creation of Stymphalion.
Legault, Ted – Archaeologist and explorer. Discovered Imperator Ardens.
LHC – Large Hadron Collider, a particle collider located near Geneva, Switzerland. Shut down indefinitely after experiments that brought Auslander into our universe.

Mike – Slang for GMs. From 'Golf Mike', call signs for 'GM' in NATO phonetic alphabet. Used primarily by those in the military.

Neil, Thomas – Illinois congressional candidate. Running an anti-GM platform with the intent of greater GM-focused defense budgets, and emphasis on urban defenses.

Organic Metal – A material structurally similar to certain carbon alloys that can be grown organically. Discovered by HG, and used to create Surudago's pincers.

Polpott – Named after Cambodian dictator, Pol Pot. Name chosen for its intimidating and negative connotations.
Puntig – Dutch for 'pointed', 'pointy'.

RedTide – Private military company founded to deal exclusively with GMs. Currently has contracts with twelve countries, including the United States.

Spinnjager – German for 'spider warrior'.
Stymphalion – From Greek mythology, the Stymphalian birds were a carnivorous flock of birds which were covered in brass feathers.
Surudago – Compound of Japanese words meaning 'sharp' and 'jaw'.

Titan Suit – Exoskeleton and accompanying suit used by RedTide operatives. Larger than the average human, and can only be used by those who have undergone proper physical conditioning.
Tungin – From the Nigerian word for werehyena, bultungin. Means literally, 'I change myself into a hyena'.
Tyr – God of combat in Norse mythology.

Universe X – The alternate universe that Auslander and Polpott come from. The possibility of such universes have become a topic of intense research and heated debate around the world.

Watson, Rick – American journalist. Coined Terrordactyl's name after a witnessing one of its first attacks, and later began following kaiju almost exclusively.
Everything You Wanted to Know About Surudago but Were Afraid to Ask. :D I decided to put together this gloassary of people, names, acronyms, etc from the Surudaverse, since I've (intentionally) left a lot of things in the files unexplained, or only hinted at.

I wanted to put some background info in the glossary, but I decided to write it in-universe, so I'll just put that stuff here.
GM - I intended this to mean 'giant monster' originally, but then I decided I wanted it to be something more technical, and that people would call it 'giant monster' kind of jokingly. Good god, did it take me a long time to find something that would fit the acronym.
HG - Named after HG Wells, awesome author whom I happen to share a birthday with.
Ted Legault - Named after a friend of mine I'm taking latin class with.
Thomas Neil - Named after Jurassic Park badass Sam Neil. Chose him for another reason too, but I can't say now with giving away major spoilers.
Puntig - Sooo Puntig's from South Africa. At some point, I found a translator that told me pointy/spiky was 'puntig' in one of the South African languages. Looking it up now to make sure I have the right language for the glossary, I find that it's actually Dutch, apparently. D'oh.
Stymphalion - I spelled this wrong! Whatever, it was...totally intentional.

Alright guys, hopes this shed a little light on the 'verse and keeps your interest up. Right now I'm working on writing what happens when Polpott comes to town (since I have nowhere NEAR enough writing for this series), so keep a look out for that...enjoy!

This was fun to read - lots of interesting tidbits! You have the same birthday as Wells? Cool!
